Blacksmithing with My Boys

Earlier in the summer, my boys and I spent an afternoon here and left with handmade treasures—and a newfound appreciation for old-world craftsmanship. Blacksmithing isn’t easy work, but it’s unforgettable. There was plenty of laughter as we hammered, shaped, and cooled our pieces, each of us proud of what we’d forged.

My marshmallow roaster has since become a campfire favorite, while the boys’ blades have proven useful for everything from carving sticks to fishing trips.

Why Autumn is the Perfect Time to Visit

As the leaves change, the Bavarian Blacksmith Experience is introducing fall-inspired projects perfect for a weekend outing or a cozy getaway in Frankenmuth.

Guests can forge their own Harvest Knife or Herb Chopper, or create one of four Spooky Pendants, which can be turned into necklaces or keychains—ideal souvenirs for the Halloween season.

Each project comes with its own flair. The Harvest Knife and Herb Chopper can be customized with a Rune, Bindrune, or personalized lettering—names, initials, or a date—adding a meaningful touch to every piece. The Spooky Pendants already feature intricate designs, but guests can add initials or symbols to make them one-of-a-kind keepsakes.

Prices range by project:

  • Harvest Knife – $150
  • Herb Chopper – $80
  • Spooky Pendant – $40

Whether choosing to craft a blade or purchase a handmade pendant, visitors can experience the warmth of the forge, the rhythm of the hammer, and the satisfaction of making something built to last.
