Winter settles gently over Holland, and the city shifts into a quieter, cozier rhythm. Storefronts glow, the scent of cinnamon hangs in the air, and families bundle up for long walks past the holiday lights. It’s the kind of small-town December that already feels like a scene from a storybook.

A New Family Tradition Arrives in Holland
Downtown sparkles during the Parade of Lights. Windmill Island Gardens glows for Magic at the Mill. The new Ice Park brings Scandinavian-meets-Dutch energy to the coldest months. And this year, Tulip Time is adding one more reason for families to head west: the all-new Dutch Winterfest.
Running December 2–6, 2025, Dutch Winterfest blends holiday magic with the Dutch traditions Holland is known for. Think festive art, cozy treats, storytime moments for little ones, and a full lineup of concerts, performances, and family fun.

Delft Downtown: Art Turns the City into a Gallery
The biggest visual showstopper is Delft Downtown, a large-scale public art installation created with the Holland Area Arts Council. Oversized ornaments painted in iconic Delft blue—each designed by a local artist—will appear all over downtown. Kids will spot them instantly, and parents get the joy of watching everyone point, touch, and explore. The whole thing turns a winter walk into a mini art hunt.

The Sinterklaas Shuffle Makes Its Return
Dutch Winterfest also brings back a major favorite: the Sinterklaas Shuffle. It sold out last year, and families asked for its return. Kids carry lanterns, wander through downtown under twinkling lights, take photos at whimsical stops, and meet Sinterklaas himself. It’s self-paced, gentle, and perfect for busy families who want holiday magic without the stress.

Dutch Winterfest for Little Ones
Toddlers and younger children get their own moment through Tulip Tales for Tots, a Dutch-themed holiday storytime series. Breakfast with Sinterklaas adds another layer of excitement, serving up poffertjes and pigs in a blanket with the big guy himself. Parents who want a calmer experience will appreciate that everything is paced for little legs and short attention spans.

Live Music, Theater, and a Bit of Culture
Dutch Winterfest isn’t just for kids. At Park Theatre, the Holland Concert Jazz Orchestra performs holiday classics with a bold jazz twist. At Holland Community Theatre, guests can see Peter and the Starcatcher, offering a seasonal story full of adventure and warmth. Both shows bring arts and culture into Holland’s winter lineup.

Behind-the-Scenes Experiences and Sips for Grown-Ups
Families who love exploring historic spaces will enjoy the Holiday Haus Tour, which opens doors to rarely seen buildings around Holland. The Proost! Tasting Tour offers a different kind of exploration—a motor coach ride featuring local beer, wine, spirits, and bites inspired by Dutch winter flavors.

Where to Stay in Holland During Dutch Winterfest
Courtyard by Marriott Holland Downtown
Families will appreciate the walkability here. Kids can step right outside and be in the middle of Delft Downtown, Kerstmarkt, and the shuffle route. The hotel has an indoor pool, which becomes a serious win after a cold evening of holiday wandering. Rooms are modern and large enough to handle the piles of winter gear that come with traveling in December.
DoubleTree by Hilton Holland
This hotel offers an indoor pool, breakfast options that keep everyone fed before big festival days, and easy access to both downtown and the highway. It’s a practical base for families who want the comfort of a familiar brand and the convenience of quick drives to Windmill Island Gardens or the Ice Park.

A New Kind of Holiday Gathering
Tulip Time hopes this winter celebration becomes a yearly tradition. As Executive Director Gwen Auwerda says, “Just as Tulip Time brings people together in the spring, Dutch Winterfest will create magical moments during the holidays.”
With art, theater, Sinterklaas, festive treats, and behind-the-scenes tours, Dutch Winterfest is setting the stage for a joy-filled December getaway in Holland.
Dutch Winterfest runs December 2–6, 2025. Tickets for select events will be available at DutchWinterfest.com.
