There’s a new reason to hike Sugarloaf Mountain, bike the RAMBA trails, or spend a sunny day at McCarty’s Cove. Travel Marquette has launched Collect Marquette, a family-friendly digital passport program that rewards participants for picking up litter while exploring the area’s scenic spots.

Running now through the end of summer, this initiative is perfect for families looking to add purpose to their outdoor adventures. It’s free, simple, and kid-approved.

How the Collect Marquette Program Works

Participants can get started by stopping into the Travel Marquette office to pick up gloves and a trash bag. Then, using the Collect Marquette digital passport, check in at designated outdoor locations throughout the county.

Here’s the full step-by-step:

  • Visit the Travel Marquette office to grab a trash bag and gloves
  • Use the digital passport to check in at geo-tagged sites around Marquette County
  • Pick up litter while hiking, biking, or enjoying the beach
  • Return your used trash bag to the Travel Marquette office and receive a limited-edition Collect Marquette tote bag
  • Bonus: Each participant who drops off a bag will be entered to win one of three $150 Love on Local gift cards, redeemable at Marquette County businesses

Winners will be announced on September 5, 2025.

Travel Marquette CEO Susan Estler says it best:

“This program is a simple yet impactful way to give back while exploring Marquette County. Designed for both visitors and residents alike, Collect Marquette turns a hike, bike or beach day into an opportunity to make a difference.”

Teaching Kids to Be Responsible Travelers

The program is part of Travel Marquette’s broader Respect Marquette County campaign, which encourages sustainable travel and environmental awareness. For families, it’s a great opportunity to model good habits and encourage kids to care for the places they visit.

Picking up litter becomes less of a chore and more of a mission, especially when it ends in a fun prize or chance to win a local shopping spree.
