Bavarian Inn has always been one of Michigan’s favorite family destinations, but now the fun has reached an entirely new level. With the grand opening of Bavarian Blast Waterpark, Frankenmuth is home to the largest indoor waterpark and family fun center in the state. At more than 140,000 square feet, this newly expanded attraction is bursting with activities that kids and adults alike will love.
During a summer afternoon visit with my three boys, I quickly realized this is more than just a waterpark—it’s a full-blown family adventure. From waterslides and wave pools to a lazy river, the only hard part was figuring out where to begin.

Attractions at Bavarian Blast Waterpark
16 New Waterslides
The boys could hardly contain themselves as they darted toward the waterslides. With options for solo riders, double tubes, and even six-person rafts, there was a thrill for every age and level of bravery. My tip? Start with the family slides to warm up before heading to the more daring body slides.

Huge Rip Roaring Wave Pool
“Can we do it again?” was the phrase of the day. The wave pool was one of the highlights—gentle waves for younger swimmers closer to shore, and thunderous rolling waves further out for bigger kids and teens. My boys spent hours dipping in and out, racing the waves, and laughing nonstop.

The Not So Lazy River
Forget “lazy.” This river adds just enough current to keep it exciting while still offering a relaxing float. It’s the perfect ride to regroup before heading back into the action.

Michigan’s First Swim-Up Bar
For adults, the Bootlegger Swim-Up Bar is a game-changer. With Michigan sports on the big screens and a tropical vibe, it’s a little slice of paradise. (Note: The bar will be closed for maintenance August 25–September 5, 2025.)

Endless Summer, Any Time of Year
Inside Bavarian Blast, it’s always 80 degrees. Whether snow is falling outside or rain is in the forecast, families can count on summer vibes in Frankenmuth. Between slides, pools, and cabanas, there’s no shortage of places to relax. Private cabanas even come with flat screen TVs, refrigerators, and food service—a great way to recharge while the kids keep playing.

Insider Tips from Our Visit
- Go on a weekday if you can. Our Monday visit was busy but manageable.
- Find a central table. I was able to keep an eye on our belongings and still have a good view of the kids racing from one attraction to the next.
- Plan to stay overnight. Between the waterpark and the family fun center, everyone will be happily exhausted. Staying at the Bavarian Inn Lodge makes it easier to keep the fun going the next morning.
- Fuel up with chicken dinners. The Bavarian Inn Restaurant remains a Frankenmuth classic and is the perfect stop after a long day of splashing and sliding.
