August was packed with road trips, restaurant reviews, quirky festivals, and plenty of family-friendly Michigan adventures. From Grand Rapids fine dining to Bavarian riverboat rides, we covered it all. And with September officially ushering in fall, we’ve got cider mills, haunted hotels, pumpkin patches, and scenic drives lined up. Here’s a look back at what’s new on the blog and a preview of what’s coming this month.

Beer Gardens

August saw some backyard flavor with our feature on Northend Taproom and a stop at Marquette’s Smokehouse Beer Garden. These stories are part of our growing “Family Friendly Beer Garden” series, proving that parents can enjoy a pint while kids stay entertained. September will keep the momentum going with new beer garden reviews, plus a spotlight on Oktoberfest celebrations across Michigan.

Frankenmuth

Frankenmuth dominated the end of summer. We dove into the world’s largest Christmas store, rode the Bavarian Belle, and splashed our way through the newly expanded Bavarian Inn Waterpark. September takes it further with a triple feature: a review of the Bavarian Inn Restaurant, hands-on fun at the Blacksmith Experience, and a deep dive into the Bavarian Inn Hotel. Cozy, family-friendly fall in Michigan’s “Little Bavaria” is just getting started.

Dogs in the Mitten

In August we gave our Dog-Friendly Michigan Beaches guide a full refresh, spotlighting where pups love to play along the shoreline. Looking ahead, September will feature an update to our Dog-Friendly Fall Adventures guide. Because fall color tours, pumpkin patches, and apple orchards are even better with a four-legged friend.

Booked in the Mitten

August introduced Andrea’s stop at Flyleaf in Grosse Pointe, a story blending books, bites, and bistro vibes. She also talked with Michigan author, Jessica Gomez. In September, “Booked in the Mitten” continues with more literary travel, including a feature on Bookish Goods. ✨ Pro tip: be sure to follow us on Instagram to be entered into an upcoming book-lover’s giveaway.

Hiking Michigan this Fall

From Marquette’s Sugarloaf hike to our updated guide to Michigan’s Best Family-Friendly Hiking Trails, August was filled with trail talk. September brings even more: a guide to the Best Fall Hikes for Families and a fall travel packing list for camping. Think waterfalls, overlooks, and leaf-crunching family hikes.

Our Favorite College Towns

August highlighted college town travel during move-in week, plus an update to our “College Towns Worth Visiting in Michigan” story. This September we’ll keep the theme alive with a feature on Upper Peninsula Fall Road Trip Itinerary—perfect for parents dropping Michigan Tech or Northern Michigan students off or planning a weekend visit.
